Project update: achieving the wow factor with a bespoke staircase & dining room furniture

Remodeling and Home Design

It isn’t uncommon for clients to come to us and tell us that they love their space, yet the fittings and furniture no longer reflect the contemporary look that they want for their home.

This was the case with one of our most recent projects. The client’s entrance hall was large and impressive, yet the staircase, a focal point of the room, was felt to be dated and unrepresentative of the client’s personal style.

The bespoke designs we created were part of a sizeable improvement project which involved new wooden flooring and general modernisation. As a result, we worked to a comprehensive brief which took proposed colour schemes and new storage solutions into account.

Although the project isn’t yet complete and we still have plenty more to show you, these initial before and after pictures show a wonderful transformation.

We look forward to posting further details once the lounge and landing furniture has been installed and all elements of the refurbishment has been completed.

Please take a look through and feel free to contact us if you have any questions about transforming your own space.

Before – Staircase and entrance hall

Staircase

With a generous staircase, the entrance hall has the potential to become a space which the family will cherish. With aspirations to completely transform the existing stairwell and open up the space, considerable alterations were made to the left hand wall and door frame.

The existing carpeted floor will be replaced by a dark wenge wood (stained oak) at a later date and it was important to ensure that the new staircase would perfectly match the proposed floorboards.

After assessing the existing lower staircase, it was apparent that the stairs needed some major repairs. These were taken out and replacements were designed and manufactured in our own workshop before being transported to the client’s home.

After – already well on the way to the wow factor!

With bevelled glass balustrades replacing the existing wall space, the entrance is effectively opened-up to look more expansive and contemporary.

To beautifully complement the soon-to-be-laid floor, oak newel posts were stained wenge and polished to a beautiful rich high-shine. Discreet hidden LED lighting has been incorporated into the staircase to offer energy-efficient down lighting. The result is a staircase which is not only safe and well illuminated, but also creates a real ambiance for the entrance hallway.

Before – dining room furniture

Cabinet

The homeowners had an alcove space in their dining room, and while the existing unit was a very handy storage solution for the space, the furniture was 30 years old and in need of a complete overhaul. In order to keep the same amount of storage yet completely transform the space, we devised a contemporary alternative which incorporated LED lighting and a hidden service door to the kitchen.

Again, taking the homeowner’s overall interior designs plans into account, a splash of rich colour was required in order to bring out the beautiful depth of the new wenge floor.

After – beautiful storage to complement the wenge staircase and flooring

With a dark wenge border framing the new storage area, the client has effectively achieved a harmonious effect between the entrance hallway and the dining room. With ample storage space and an LED illuminated alcove, the new furniture was designed with socialising and hosting in mind.

The top units are designed to store drinks, with lift-up bi-fold doors allowing for easy access and a sleek handle-less design. The lower draws provide additional storage and the spray painted panels are beautifully finished with Swarovski crystal handles. As with most of our furniture designs, the client requested that the units would have soft-close functionality.

We’re thrilled to have been part of this wonderful house-wide project – but our work isn’t over yet! Keep checking back as we’ll be posting more updates from other projects taking place throughout this beautiful home.
