Creating a warm bedroom design with bird’s eye maple

Remodeling and Home Design

Hardwood furniture is always a popular choice for bedroom design due to its unique ability to remain timeless and classic as trends change (and houses exchange hands!). From warm traditional oaks in country-style houses to more contemporary painted finishes, hardwood can be stained, crafted and utilised to meet every taste.

It’s fair to say that bird’s eye maple remains an ever-popular choice in bedroom design, perhaps over any other hardwood. The term ‘bird’s eye’ is used to describe hardwood which exhibits small swirling patterns that look a little like a bird’s eyes. It is unknown why this effect occurs, however it is most often found in hard maple, specifically sugar maple.

With a warm, pale hue and delicate texture, it’s clear to see why bird’s eye maple is a favourite choice for the home. It makes beautiful bedroom furniture as it can be used for a full fitted bedroom design without making a space appear smaller or overpowered by darker tones.

One of our most recent projects is a stunning example of how bird’s eye maple can enhance a stylish master bedroom. After designing and manufacturing the wardrobes, bed head, bedside draws and the feature dressing area, we’re delighted to showcase the finished result here on the blog.

Bird's eye maple wardrobes by Lomax Interiors

The wardrobes have been fully fitted with birds eye maple veneered doors. In order to achieve a rich contrast, a bubinga inlay has been used. Typically, bubinga exhibits a warm red tone, making it highly complementary with a paler wood such as maple.

Maple bed head

A feature bed head adds a touch of elegance and incorporates a convenient mains light switch. Matching inlaid bedside draws complement the overall design.

Maple dressing area

A feature dressing area allows the client to showcase their own personal effects and offers ample storage. In this case, spotlights have been incorporated into the dresser.

The space behind the mirror is utilised as additional shoe storage.

The client kindly offered the following testimonial after the project was finished:

“Kevin and his team of fitters have created an outstanding bedroom sanctuary. Kevin’s attention to detail during the planning phase was exceptional – his patience and methodical approach helped us realise our vision. The fitters were no less exceptional – highly skilled, punctual, polite, hard working and very neat and tidy.

Nothing was too much trouble and the whole experience was slick and professional. We now really do have our dream bedroom which is greatly admired by our family and friends.

I can’t recommend Lomax Interiors highly enough. Thank you.”
